Pilots: Starting with Safety*
This session is focused on the safety of pilots on duty – a unifying force within our Association – and will include presentations, open discussions and Q&A** on matters including:
- Progress at the IMO on the revision of SOLAS regulation V/23 on pilot transfer arrangements
- The results of work commissioned by IMPA on behalf of its members
- Personal protective equipment
- Enhancing the safety culture maturity of pilotage as a public service
- The role of root cause analysis safety investigations and near-miss reporting

Session 2
Energy Efficiency: New Challenges when Piloting*
This session will address the implications of international regulations to improve the energy efficiency of international shipping for safety, pollution prevention and port efficiency and will include presentations, open discussions and Q&A** on matters including:
- The 2023 IMO Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships and its impact on ship design
- The impact of carbon intensity reduction measures on the handling and performance of ships under pilotage
- The role of digital technology in enhancing the safety and efficiency of navigation, including developments in the S-100 domain, VTS and aids to navigation
- The challenges created by an increasing role of data in pilotage, particularly in the context of very-large and ultra-large ships
